Washington, D.C. Travel Guide

Situated in the District of Columbia, Washington is the seat of the federal government since 1790. The site was chosen by George Washington, the first president of the United States. Built on Potomac, the city was built on the plans of the French architect Pierre Charles the Child.
The city has a rich cultural and artistic heritage. Indeed, Smithsonian Institution counts about fifteen museums to his credit, and has just added to its collection, National Portrait Gallery and American Art Museum.
