Mexico City Travel Guide

Mexico City, the oldest metropolis of America, is located on the Mexican central high plateau, at an altitude of 2,000 meters. The city is surrounded of the volcanos Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl and is known to have the best climate of the whole world, with an annual average temperature of 22°C.
Known formerly like the " city of the castles" , the town of Mexico City has two areas classified by UNESCO: the historical centre and the park of Xochimilco. The historical centre, avoided beautiful religious buildings and histories such as: the metropolitan cathedral, one of the monuments most important of America; the national palate, where you will be able to admire in the patio the spectacular murals of Diego Rivera which tell the history of Mexico City; the palate of beautiful arts, splendid building of style art nouveau and art déco. The ecological park of Xochimilco, considered by much " Venice Mexican " that you will traverse on board une" trajinera" (boat out of wooden decorated with flowers).
If your centers of interest are rather cultural, the town of Mexico City has a large variety of museums like: the national museum of anthropology, the museum of arts, the national museum of art and history (placed in the castle of Chapultepec) where you will be able to admire collections which reflect the artistic and historical evolution country, prehispanic time until our days. In north, you will be able to visit the basilica of Guadalupe, the second basilica most visited in the world  after the basilica Saint Pierre in the Vatican, stage obliged for those which want to know the Mexican habits and traditions.
Mexico City is a cosmopolitan city where one can find all the activities of a modern city: purchases in bazaars and markets of craft industries, for example in Coyoacán and San Ángel, or in shops and shopping malls, like those of Santa Fe and Polanco, surrounded by restaurants and hotels of international classes.
