Glasgow Travel Guide
We help you plan, compare and share your vacation in Glasgow.
Glasgow has a dirty reputation: industrial, sad, tedious, poor and dangerous town Pretty table! This image could correspond to reality in the past: touched full whip by the economic crisis in the Seventies, causing the closing of the factories and the shipyards of Clyde, Glasgow was synonymous with unemployment, economic crisis and urban violence. Today, Glasgow remains a popular city, where unemployment continues to make devastations. But the image of Glasgow changed the city diversified its economic activities and remains the economic metropolis of Scotland. And especially the cultural life and social intensified to become one of most active of Europe: Glasgow was seen allotting the title of European capital of the culture in 1990, and that of British capital of architecture and the design in 1999. The city became the third tourist destination of Great Britain (after London and Edinburgh): the tourists come to visit the remarkable museums of the city (in particular the very famous Burrell collection), to discover the buildings imagined by Charles Rennie Mackintosh (who is in Glasgow what Gaudi is in Barcelona) and to plunge in the night life of the pubs and restaurants of Glasgow. The heart of Glasgow developed around George Square, beautiful place in front of City Chambers, one of the most extravagant buildings of Glasgow, built with the apogee of the richness of the city. The place counts some statues which pay homage to the great Scottish figures: Robert Burns, James Watt, Walter Scott, Lord Clyde, On the edges of Clyde extends Glasgow Green, the oldest park of the world (there has existed for 800 years!).
